Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Monday 04.03.2024

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
General stable conditions. Be aware that the sun weakens the snow in sunexposed terrain. Natural released avalanches are likely, caution should be taken, especially in sun exposed, sheltered terrain formations such as gullies. Pay attention to the slippery and icy conditions in the mountains. Crampons are recommended.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 3. March 2024

Mountain weather

Sunday 3. March 2024

No precipitation. Breeze from northeast, changing to fresh breeze from the northeast during the afternoon. -7 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 4. March 2024

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast. -7 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
